Journey to Better Health

Big Problem – share your story …

Obesity, largely a product of the modern lifestyle, has in a very short span of time become the nation’s most pressing health problem, now routinely described as an epidemic. Mississippians – the nation’s least healthy people – are also the fattest, and the connection is no coincidence. The Daily Journal started a multipart series that continues over the next two Sundays examining the problem in Northeast Mississippi and possible solutions.

Here is a link to the coverage from Sunday – Click here for How We Got Here.

Sunday, July 20 – The young at risk

Sunday, July 27 – Building a leaning community.

Do you have a story about obesity? Please share it here in the comment section. Thanks for reading.

I have always been skinny but over the last few years I have put on a lot of weight. I plan on having lap band surgery in the near future. In the mean time I am doing light excercize. and trying to cut calories. It is so hard . My Mother went through the same thing. She always told me to watch my weight. Stress has really got me down. But I’m putting my best effort toward losing pounds.

Tupelo needs sidewalks. Kids can’t even ride their bikes to school without riding on the road. In most cities, sidewalks are filled with bikers, joggers, skaters and other health enthusiasts.

I’m tall, so i’ve always “carried weight”…it IS true what they say though, when you have a baby its near impossible to get all the weight off to get back to what you used to look like!

Mississippi needs to see what they are doing to its people..Everyone needs to take a good look around..Like tupelo..Every where u turn is more places to eat..What about putting up place to have fun that requrie u too move and do something..Instead of eat it eat all around..It not what they put on your plate..Its whats out there for us..And families and people.and for our kids..Kids are getting pregent early and married as teenagers and drinking..Because why there is nothing to do for anyone..So what do people think is going to happen..It is too hot for people to run or be outside and there is nothing free to go too..Alot of mississippi needs to look around at there cities and towns and ask them selves what they can do too change mississippi..One is start with places to have fun and make u want move..Take a look at ohio or new york or other larger cities close to us..And see what they offer there people as familes and young kids. Its not about on your plate that they give when u go out and eat. Its whats eles is offered too them to go and do..All u see around u is places to eat in tupelo every where and they just put in a new place two..And when its in your face on every corner and every turn.. What eles do u think is going to happen.People are going to say lets eat.. Nothing eles to do but shop. I and i speck as someone who is over weight and has too children that i think of. I am scared to keep living down here..Because there is nothing for them..But eat , party , get married and have a baby. Sounds like a plain..We as a state need to take a stand.. And tell the towns and cities to start tring to come up with away to have fun and want to get out and move..But as long as u keep putting up places to eat and nothing for familes and kids to have fun at this is going to stay this way..
